Characteristics
The forward converter or flux converter represents an isolated variant of the buck converter. Depending on the winding ratio of the transformer, the output voltage can be higher, lower or equal to the input voltage.
The isolated output feedback can be acquired either directly from a winding of the transformer or by using an optocoupler.
The circuit is more complex, but offers higher efficiency than the flyback converter and can be used in a power range of several 100 W.
