Hightech Innovation Center Munich

Our location in Freiham, in the west of Munich, is both a development and innovation site. In addition to central departments such as Marketing & Communications, Human Resources and Sales, a large part of the 191 international employees work in research and product development. This includes the areas of Electronic and Electromechanical Components, Custom Magnetics and Wireless Connectivity & Sensors. Important strategic partnerships have been established here due to the close proximity to various semiconductor manufacturers and universities. The Hightech Innovation Center in the university city of Munich offers scientists ideal conditions to advance future topics such as wireless connectivity, sensor technology, power modules, IoT, cloud & software services and big data. Cooperation with the Technical University of Munich plays an important role here.

Development of the location

Würth Elektronik has been represented in Munich since 2010. Because the space at the Garching site, which has been in use since 2013, was no longer sufficient despite several expansions, the Hightech Innovation Center (HIC) was built in the west of Munich. The first construction phase of the HIC provides space for 250 employees. A further expansion stage to 500 employees is being planned. The new location is now even better designed for research, development and development-related services for customers. Around one third of the total area is taken up by a large test field, including two EMC test chambers. This means that there are virtually no limits to the engineers' ability to develop and test passive components, power modules, sensors and radio modules.
