Find filter solutions quickly and cost-effectively with the

Design Your EMC-Filter Design Kit

This Design Kit offers a fast and cost-effective means of building up the filter design with various components. It allows for the examination of the filter circuit's performance in relation to the desired filtering effect, facilitating the seamless integration of the chosen filter circuit into the application. This can reduce development time and the associated costs.

For even more filter design possibilities, also check out our evaluation boards for specific applications.

Structure and mode of operation

The Discharge Resistor (R) allows to discharge the X-Capacitor when there is no load connected.

The X-Capacitor (Cx) represents a low impedance for high frequency differential signals.

The Common Code Choke (CMC) provides properties for differential and common noise filtering. At higher frequencies this choke acts as a stronger impedance than the capacitor.

The Y-Capacitors (CY1, CY2) short high frequency, common mode signals to ground.

Low-pass filters for common and differential mode suppression

Common Mode Filter

At common mode noise the inductance of the Common Mode Choke (CMC) is very high. This inductance and the Y-Capacitors (CY1, CY2) build a low-pass for high frequency common mode noise. The Y-Capacitors create a conductor for high frequency noise to internal ground, so common mode noise can be diverted. Because of the high common mode impedance of the Common Mode Choke at high frequencies, the interference current will be attenuated.

Differential Mode Filter

At differential signal noise current flows in through line L and returns through line N. Basically, in this situation the X-Capacitor (Cx) and the Leakage Inductance (LLeak) of the Common Mode Choke build a low pass filter. The loop of this low pass filter is closed via the X-Capacitor. The high frequency interference is filtered. Meanwhile the supply current, which has typically a much lower frequency (50-60 Hz), will pass the filter.
