Description

Demonstration circuit 2537A is a 135V protected, highside switch featuring the LTC®7000. The demo board isdesigned to switch a 5.5A output load from input voltagesfrom 8V to 135V. The wide input range and low shutdowncurrent (1µA typical) make it suitable for automotive, industrial, medical instrument and telecom applications. This board offers a low 50ns (typical) propagationdelay, fast switching times (<10ns) and 100% duty cycleoperation. The LTC7000 is a fast high voltage protected high sideN-channel MOSFET driver. An internal charge pump fullyenhances an external N-channel MOSFET switch, allowingit to remain on indefinitely. Its powerful gate driver candrive large gate capacitance MOSFETs with very shorttransition times, ideal for both high frequency switchingand static switch applications. The LTC7000 operatesover a 3.5V to 135V input supply range. When an externalcurrent sense resistor and internal comparator sense thatthe switch current has exceeded a preset level, a fault flagis asserted and the switch is turned off after a period oftime set by an external timing capacitor. After a cooldownperiod, the LTC7000 can be configured to automaticallyretry or remain off until input is cycled. The demo board includes input capacitors and outputdiode to accommodate input and output supply inductancewhen switching loads. The switch can be controlleddirectly with external signal or using the on-board on/offswitch. A single-shot pulse generator is included for evaluatingswitching times while limiting output power. Optionalauxiliary VCC input accommodates gate power associatedwith high frequency switching. Positions for RC delay networkto control inrush current are also included. The LTC7000 data sheet gives a complete description ofthe part, operation and application information. The datasheet must be read in conjunction with this demo manualfor demo circuit 2537A. Proper board layout is essentialfor maximum thermal and electrical performance. See thedata sheet sections for details. The LTC7000 is availablein 16-lead MSOP package and three operating junctiontemperature grades (extended and industrial –40°C to125°C, high temp automotive –40°C to 150°C and a militarygrade –55°C to 150°C.
