This application note has been written to explain the requirement of the isolation barrier with PoE (Power over Ethernet) covered by IEEE802.3af and PoE+ covered by IEEE802.3at. The first part of this application note, will look at the requirement of the IEEE specifications and how they relate to IEC 60950. The second part of this application note, will look at the considerations that have to be made when selecting components and the Printed Circuit Board (PCB) layout.
